WHY JOIN APCA MEMBERSHIP?
Joining APCA means becoming part of a unique, dynamic community of palliative care professionals and supporters across and beyond Africa, all committed to one cause: promoting palliative care for everyone who needs it on the continent. Membership offers unparalleled opportunities to contribute to the development of life-changing palliative care, and to receive support in your work and career from a wide range of experts.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
An evolving package of benefits includes:

  • Access to a dynamic, growing community of palliative care experts and supporters, offering solidarity, practical help and excellent networking opportunities across and beyond the continent.
  • Access to a member-only discussion board with palliative care specialists.
  • Quarterly APCA e-newsletter that includes up-to-date palliative care news throughout the continent, including information on bursaries, workshops, and resources.
  • Eligibility to apply for bursaries to the APCA conference.
  • If working in Africa: voting rights for the selection of APCA's board of directors, which takes place at the APCA conference every three years.
  • Privileged access to the APCA educational resource centre.
  • Opportunities to contribute to the APCA website.
  • Exposure to opportunities for strategic partnerships with like-minded associations and the association’s members.

TYPES OF APCA MEMBERSHIP
There are four types of APCA membership to choose from:

Membership within Africa
This includes individual and organizations memberships

Individual – This comprises of individuals within Africa who share the aspirations of APCA and desire to engage, promote, train or advocate for palliative care. Individual members are allowed to contribute to discussions and the decision making process in the association. They have full voting rights’ for the selection of APCA board members and may aspire for key positions within the association. This category pays an annual subscription of $30.

Organizations - This category includes National and Regional organizations, associations , individual hospice and palliative care organizations and other recognized organizations providing palliative care services and operating within Africa or engaging in palliative care work including advocacy for palliative care .They also have full voting rights for the selection of APCA board members and may aspire for key positions within the association . The category also allows members to contribute to discussions and engage in the decision making process within the association. This category pays an annual subscription fee of $100

Membership outside Africa
This also includes both individual and organizations memberships

Individuals: This category comprises of individuals outside Africa who share the aspirations of APCA and desire to engage, promote, train or advocate for palliative care. Individual members are allowed to contribute to discussions and decision making process in the association, they are however not allowed to vote in the selection of APCA board members nor aspire for competitive positions within the association. They still enjoy the wide range of benefits from being part of APCA’s ever growing network. This category pays an annual subscription of $50.

Organizations: This category comprises of International organizations, associations, individual hospice and palliative care organizations plus any other entity that operate outside Africa but support or engage in Palliative care work and are committed to the development of palliative care in Africa. The members in this category are allowed to contribute to discussions about the association’s affairs and to and engage in the decision making process within the association. They are however not allowed to vote in APCA board members but still enjoy the wide range of benefits from being part of APCA's ever-growing network. This category of members pays an annual subscription of $150.

NB: When an organisation joins APCA, all its staff automatically become members and are eligible to apply for bursaries; however there is only one board vote per organisation. If other staff would like to vote themselves, they must become individual members. If you join as an organisation, please ask individual staff to fill in the application form, and to notify us if they're leaving your organisation so we can keep our records updated.


HOW TO BECOME AN APCA MEMBER
Please fill in our online membership application form here . Your application form will be reviewed by APCA’s operational staff who will make recommendations to the Executive Director for approval of membership.

Membership becomes fully effective upon ratification by the Board of Directors and on full payment of the annual subscription fee. Once we receive payment you will receive notification of your APCA membership number.
